Disappearing Images

OK, everything has been perfect - no whines or complaints - until today when I was trying to look at the videos and pics I took over the weekend. They have all disappeared even though I scanned through them yesterday. The only thing between then and now is that I installed the Extra Decoders Support and Firefox, but I even think I took some of the pics after the Decoders was installed. Older images (before this weekend) are still in tact. I've looked through the file manager and have looked through the device in mass storage mode....NOTHING. Heartbroken. Help.

What happens if you browse the device from the xterminal?

ls
ll
cd ..
cd dir

hmmmm.... that doesn't seem to get me anywhere. The second line is two hash marks, right? They are 'unexpected' and I can't get further than the first 'ls' which takes me to the home directory. Any suggestions on ow to proceed. really stuck here.

I am assuming that the videos/photos are still in the N900 but that the mime names have been corrupted and aren't being read by the media player or photos apps. Can someone please help me get into the proper area through xterminal so I can poke around and see. The
ls
ll
cd ..
cd dir

commands didn't get me anywhere.

In X Terminal, you'll need to change to the directory used by the camera. If you're using the internal memory, the command you need is "cd /home/user/MyDocs/DCIM" and for the external card, it's "cd /media/mmc1/DCIM". You can then use "ls" to show the contents of the directory and see whether there's the correct number of files or not.

Try:

Code:

ls -a ~/MyDocs/DCIM
To check if your files are there... Also, try restarting the phone and give it some time to reindex the media (might take several minutes if you have a big music/image/video library)

OK. I was able to look into the DCIM folder in xterminal and there are 21 .jpg and 1 .mp4 (don't know why that is there, should it be?) In the photos app, there are only 13 files. So, how do I get the other files to appear? Can I get these off of the N900 and onto my desktop through terminal?

Re: Disappearing Images

Well, connect your N900 to your computer in `Data Storage` mode and you should be able to access all the files. As for why they don't show up, as I said, try to restart the device and give it several minutes to reindex the files.

If that doesn't help try uninstalling Extra Decoders Support.

If that fails, you can also try running "tracker-process --hard-reset" to reset the indexer. This'll mean it needs to reindex all the media on the phone again though, so can take a while if you have a large music/video collection on there.

Re: Disappearing Images

OK. So, when I copied the DCIM folder onto the computer in mass storage mode, everything was there - many more images and videos than I found in xterminal looking into the DCIM folder, and obviously more than I could find using the photos or media apps. So, I think there is an indexing issue that I should remedy even though I do have the images. (BTW, I did de-install Extra Decoders Support last night.) So, the idea of re-indexing appeals to me. Can someone walk me through those steps? The 'tracker-process -- hard reset" doesn't really get me anywhere.
