Xarchiver - where to get the command line utlities?
I have installed Xarchiver but cannot find the command line utilities such as zip, unzip, rar, unrar etc for it to work. They are listed on http://xarchive.garage.maemo.org/download.html but do not install. Can anyone help? Thanks!

Please do a search before posting on the forum as a lot of questions are already answered elsewhere...
http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php...ighlight=unrar You'll need to feel comfortable using the xterminal, and will also need to enable repositories which could cause damage to your phone as apps in them are untested... I'm happy to talk you through it if that thread doesn't help though. |

What I'm wondering is why the developer of Xarchiver doesn't bundle the utilities needed with his front end in order to achieve a single, friendly install. As it stands his web page has missing files, you have to hunt through threads to find them and then use X-Terminal - this is great for geeks but not for a more general public. The effort to be a little more user friendly can't be that great..... |
Re: Xarchiver - where to get the command line utlities?
Yeah I must admit I agree with you on that - when I got my N900 I wasn't at all comfortable in using the terminal or installing apps from development repos but I've given myself a crash course and am loving it now. Thing is, not all users will want to and probably shouldn't need to!
Have you tried contacting the author? I'm sure its pretty easy to set up - or mayb it would be better to get zip/unzip and rar/unrar pushed up to the repos, as xarchiver is only a frontend and would work with any of the above... Just a thought :) |

the zip plugin for file manager from extras-devel works with Xarchiver, it only unpacks zip files tho, every time i try and create a zip the xarchiver app closes

this is still not working for me after a few days of trying, i have ran apt-get install unzip unrar, they both installed according to xterm, but neither is in app manager / uninstall, and there is no option for unzip or unrar in xarchiver, ive ran apt-get again and again, and it says i already have the latest version, but i clearly dont

just run unrar e <name of file>.rar to extract it to the current directory. |
