unable to pause or fast forward xvid avi in mplayer
 

Hi i am attempting to use mplayer to play back an xvid encoded tv show. I have tried both kmplayer and SiB and both programs do not allow me to pause the video. I am also unable to fast forward or rewond video. Is this a known bug? I hoped i would be able to play these without converting them.

You could always just use the command line mplayer without the GUI front end and use the spacebar to pause and play.

Really? Why? With both kmplayer and SiB, all the standard keyboard shortcuts for mplayer works fine.
Pause/Play (spacebar), arrow keys for 10sec or 1min forward/back etc. Never had them not working.

kmplayer also has on-screen touch controls for pause/seek.
But I prefer SiB's easier selection of videos I have.

Make sure you have latest version of both.

Not the OP but wanted to comment.

Why make a GUI when the command line works just fine :D
Then again I am pretty old school when it comes to any *nix enviroment.

Old school is all well and nice. I'm a CLI person myself. (going back over 20 years)

But I'll bet you that I can start playing a video using mplayer via SiB even before you finish typing the word "mplayer".

I can play the video I want in exactly 3 taps of the touch screen. Within 6 seconds from the desktop screen.
(about 4 seconds to launch SiB then about 2 seconds to launch mplayer with the video I want.)

Very useful I'll say.

I have never used Xterminal. I am clueless on that front.

I tried uninstalling mplayer then reinstalling. Same problem persists

Sometimes the problem is not your media player, sometimes its the video file.
There are many encoders that encode to xvid, so the results are not always 100% similar.
AND every encoder has setting one can change, so almost every xvid encoded vid you come across will be somewhat different from one another.

Try getting a video converter and convert it to the right resolution and 25fps.
