Connect to Samsung Blackjack via BT

Hi all. Great forum. Just picked up a N800 and I love it. Works great over Wi-Fi, however what would push it over the edge for me is to be able to connect it to my Samsung Blackjack so I am able to surf via 3G when not connected via Wi-Fi.

I am able to pair the devices, however, when I attempt to connect to the Blackjack to tether, the N800 says that it can't connect to the Blackjack.

I've read a ton on this site about BT pairing, however, it seems like there are a ton of steps to go through to make this happen when it seems that it shouldn't be that difficult.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!!!!

Mike

I think your issue is that the BlackJack has a BT PAN profile not a BT DUN profile; others (like me) ran into the same issue with the T-Mobile Dash and the 770. The PAN profile is possible but requires much more effort than the DUN paring that is officially supported by the 770/800. Search the forums for "PAN" the procedures are there for the 770, by now they might even be there for the 800. Good luck, I just returned the Dash and stayed with my Samsung T509 because of the ease of connecting via BT DUN.

Bryan,

Thanks for the response. Unreal that these phones have DUN disabled. Looks like I might buy an LG Cu500 to have when I want to use BT DUN for my N800.

Thanks again.

The PAN works fine, but not perfectly. What I found with the N800 and my blackjack is that you can connect them using the same scripts people are using to connect the blackjack to the 770 (there is a thread in this forum about just that)... There are two issues:

1) in the scripts they all suggest you load a module into the kernel as part of the script, this is unnecessary in the N800, I believe it is compiled in.

2) The DUMMY profile doesn't work exactly right, none of the built in apps (opera, IM, etc) will work. I had to install Minimo and GAIM in order to use the connection I could get with BT PAN. I assume this will be fixed eventually, but it hasn't' been yet.
