Re: html5
No, it doesn't. Youtube uses H.264 as HTML5 encoder while the Mozilla engine decodes Ogg/Theora.
EDIT: Or, well, it does support HTML5 but not Youtube's implementation of it. EDIT#2: And MicroB, the built-in browser, uses the Mozilla engine. |

Re: Maemo browser supports HTML5? YouTube trial not working
Given the platform's aims, it will be interesting to see how Mozilla & Maemo move with HTML5 (licensing, engineering, and politics play equal parts here). This should be pretty interesting.

Some browsers implement parts of the HTML5 spec. Opera has the lead in some areas, Gecko (Firefox) in other areas and Webkit (Safari/Chrome) in yet some areas. Some browsers implement other cool new technologies that are not HTML5, but often get lumped in with HTML5: Geolocation, web workers, (parts of) SVG, XHR, etc. Since H.264 is a format that is not free to use, I hope Mozilla never will cave in and start supporting it. The web should have open formats. |

HTML5 suggests a more open standard, yet H264 which YouTube are using is surrounded by licensing issues too. Google and apple seem onboard with H264, and with very broad coverage this could make it tricky for firefox/maemo to continue with the insistance that H264 is not appropriate due to the licensing issues.... |
