RTCOMM and Facebook XMPP (Facebook now supports XMPP)
So today Facebook just rolled out XMPP support, and I tried to follow the directions posted around the internet to connect to facebook, but I always get authentication failed. I'm looking in the advanced options of the rtcomm package that you add on (as an alternative to pidgin). I have my facebook username set up (Mgamerz) but it never seems to connect. It needs to have SSL turned off (which really sucks right now, hopefully it'll be fixed). I can't seem to figure out if you can do that in RTCOMM or not.
Anybody care to help me? Edit: I got it partially to work. You have to change the conference server to USERNAME@chat.facebook.com. Unfortunately, people are online but they don't show up as online. I'll just post how to do this here. First, if you don't have a facebook username (not just a login), go to http://www.facebook.com/username/ Set up your username. Then go into RTCOMM's account settings, and add one and pick the protocol as JABBER. Use an existing jabber account, and put in your username as... well your username, and make the domain chat.facebook.com. Put in your facebook password as well. Go to 'advanced', and make sure there 'force old SSL' is NOT CHECKED. Port 5222, and conference server to chat.facebook.com. I'm not sure if the resource matters, but I changed mine to 'Home'. Then if all goes well you should be connected (if you got it wrong, it'll throw authenication errors). Unfortunately, I can't get people to send me messages on facebook to see if they'll push through to my 810. |
Re: RTCOMM and Facebook XMPP (Facebook now supports XMPP)
It worked for me:
username = yourfacebookuser@chat.facebook.com password = yourfaceboopasswd In advanced settings: server = chat.facebook.com port = 5222 |
