N900 version 2?
 

Sadly, the N900 only has 3G connectivity on HSPA 900/1700/2100.

Does anyone have any idea if Nokia will release a true world 3G version of the N900 with GSM/GPRS/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900 and UMTS/HSPA 800/850/900/1700/1900/2100?

The Xperia X10 due out Q1 will offer all of the above connectivity options. Residing in Canada, an unlocked N900 doesn't do me much good as no large telco's use the 3G HSPA frequencies in the N900.

I realize the Xperia 10 will be limited if it is released with the Android 1.6 OS, but hopefully that will not be the case when released.

I would prefer to buy a Nokia world phone, but if Nokia won't make one, I will have to purchase something else.

I'm guessing that means:

America: 800/850/1900/2100
EU: 900/1700/1900/2100
Everywhere else: 1900/2100

So it will, but only regionally. I would be shocked if someone had come up with a 6-band HSPA chip...

As to whether they'll release an AT&T compatible version, I doubt it. It'll probably be the next device, which I personally was not willing to wait for (so 2.5G it is for me.)

Or maybe many service providers will have the bands supported by the N900?
C'mon, we must not talk about a version 2 device right now, N900 has just came out and it's kinda expensive :(

nokia and AT&T have a not so great relationship.

Nokia makes a phone, AT&T says "sure we'll carry it, but why dont you disable wifi first, then bring down the MP on the camera, so it's more competetive with our other phones"

Nokia says "why dont we not and say we did. we have 90% of the cell phone market worldwide."

AT&T says "well we are the largest carrier in the US. and we say to do it. otherwise we wont sell it"

Nokia then says "well then dont."

if you notice, nokia sells cheap / free phones on AT&T but not much else. once in a while trhey throw a bone and make smartphone, (N75, E62) but often times they are not as great as their predecessors or other ones that are unlocked (N80, E61)

With that in mind, I never expect Nokia to make anything for AT&T. they have a strictly business relationship, and they don't communicate very friendly with eachother. I myself would be quite surprised to find Nokia willing to separate all this time and money to build a separate, AT&T only version of the N900, without AT&T offering it on a subsidy plan. and I dont see AT&T willing to offer something to compete with it's own beautiful iPhone.

As quoted above by wmarone it is not just AT&T. UMTS HSPA 800/850/1900 is used in North and South America and Australia

I didn't know much about Nokia before I bought my N900, but if it's true they really stand up to carriers, they have my utmost loyalty. Major kudos there.

Figures. If they release this I'll need to find someone who's willing to buy it and trade with me for some amount of money. Kinda sick of 5k/sec and 300ms latency. :(
