mplayer tweaks and uses (KMPlayer and WorldTV99)
edit config file
1) N900/N8x0/770: /home/user/.mplayer/config or 2) N8x0/770: /etc/mplayer/mplayer.conf softvol=yes softvol-max=600 aspect=15:9 #ao=gst, sdl #vo=omapfb,xv,sdl #framedrop=yes #afm=dspmp3,libmad #noslices=true #monitorpixelaspect=1 #fs=yes cache=600 #font=/usr/share/fonts/SwaRR4nh.ttf #subfont-text-scale=3 #menu=yes #sws=0 zoom=true This increases volume and put to fullscreen. Not quite sure cache and zoom doing anything.. or how big cache supposed to be, anyhow, I have NOT seen the ugly buffering any more except on the very beginning... Too high a softvol-max may bust your speaker. xterm mplayer this will generate the following help file, quite useful ================================================== =============== MPlayer SVN-r30099-4.2.1 (C) 2000-2009 MPlayer Team Usage: mplayer [options] [url|path/]filename Basic options: (complete list in the man page) -vo <drv> select video output driver ('-vo help' for a list) -ao <drv> select audio output driver ('-ao help' for a list) vcd://<trackno> play (S)VCD (Super Video CD) track (raw device, no mount) -alang/-slang select DVD audio/subtitle language (by 2-char country code) -ss <position> seek to given (seconds or hh:mm:ss) position -nosound do not play sound -fs fullscreen playback (or -vm, -zoom, details in the man page) -x <x> -y <y> set display resolution (for use with -vm or -zoom) -sub <file> specify subtitle file to use (also see -subfps, -subdelay) -playlist <file> specify playlist file -vid x -aid y select video (x) and audio (y) stream to play -fps x -srate y change video (x fps) and audio (y Hz) rate -pp <quality> enable postprocessing filter (details in the man page) -framedrop enable frame dropping (for slow machines) Basic keys: (complete list in the man page, also check input.conf) <- or -> seek backward/forward 10 seconds down or up seek backward/forward 1 minute pgdown or pgup seek backward/forward 10 minutes < or > step backward/forward in playlist p or SPACE pause movie (press any key to continue) q or ESC stop playing and quit program + or - adjust audio delay by +/- 0.1 second o cycle OSD mode: none / seekbar / seekbar + timer * or / increase or decrease PCM volume x or z adjust subtitle delay by +/- 0.1 second r or t adjust subtitle position up/down, also see -vf expand * * * SEE THE MAN PAGE FOR DETAILS, FURTHER (ADVANCED) OPTIONS AND KEYS * * * ================================================== ========================= mplayer main page, http://tivo-mplayer.sourceforge.net/docs/mplayer-man.html More keyboard shortcuts: W or E .................inc or dec Pause Y or G ..................sub delay ; ............................single frame view D ...........................Frame dropping M ............................Mute <-............................Dec speed back to 1.00X 9 or zero ................dec or inc volume To get keyboard shourtcuts or the Basic keys, you have to enable OSD. To get OSD on N900, touch the screen once and press the letter 'o' With respect to WorldTV99, the built-in player, osso-media-server allows navigation/search channels thru the arrow keys even on full screen mode. While the mplayer allows complete full screen mode, no black borders on either sides, give a very grand view. Plus the OSD allows much more options Bottom line, OMP plays smoother but mplayer plays more formats/channels Post if you find more keyboard shortcuts or tweaks enjoy, bun |
Re: mplayer tweaks and uses (KMPlayer and WorldTV99)
Hey bun.
I've got a HD concert video but obviously my N800 can't handle the display. Is there a command line I can type that will just play the audio with no screen output so I can at least listen to the music with this using mplayer? Thanks. |

touch the screen, press 'o', then '(', this will freeze the screen and have audio continues..........may not work for you if you cannot even start playing the media :( bun |

There is a -nosound though. Well, I tried mplayer -fps 0 -srate 48000 /media/mmc2/file.avi but that just defaulted to normal play mplayer -fps 1 -srate 48000 /media/mmc2/file.avi This works but I still get about the same amount of music stutter and chunkiness as if I were to play it normally. Maybe I'll mess around with making the display resolution of the video to 1x by 1y and see if that doesn't look pretty. *lol* Your suggestion almost worked, bun. But the music is only playing at around 90% speed. Ah screw it. I'm just going to use Ukki's Knots port and call me happy. :) |

Re: mplayer tweaks and uses (KMPlayer and WorldTV99)
the mplayer on my linux desktop (fedora) can play media files in all kinds of codec, but it isn't the case on the N900. i've tried copying the codec files downloaded from the mplayer home page to /usr/lib/codecs (like the setup on fedora) but it doesn't work too. however, the media player (with the extra codecs installed from the maemo repository) on the N900 can handle those files that mplayer cannot. is there a way to link those codecs to mplayer?

Re: mplayer tweaks and uses (KMPlayer and WorldTV99)
A:V desync on some streaming is so bad that is almost unwatchable.
Some get arounds for a particular links/programs that you really really want to watch: 1) download the clip and play from your tablet rather than streaming; this usually solves the problem, except when the clip encoding is bad, then this wont help. 2) touch the screen> letter 'O' > letter 'D' This enables frame dropping, the video will be a little bit jerky, but A:V is now sync. I found out this is a very convenient compromise. If you want more frame dropping, try pressing 'D' one more time to enable hard frame drop, it should be giving more A:V if needed, but you pay a price for really distorted video. Anybody has any more tricks on A:V desyn? This helps on watching WorldTV99. Enjoy, bun |
