extras down?

Hello!

I just got my Nokia N900, i've added Maemo Extras to my repository library but when i try to update it, the update bar freezes half way. Is this common? what should i do? I can't see any programs from extras listed when i cancel the update. (same goes to extras testing)

http://repository.maemo.org/extras wasn't (and isn't) loading for me.
Use this mirror till they're back up http://espejo.freemoe.org/ (Thanks Jebba)

I had a similar problem caused by the dns entries from my wifi router . You can view the log file from within application manager. I had connection time outs and had to set manually the dns entry for this connection.

Its certainly working for me right now.

Also, please be careful how you phrase things. Wolf8668, you should NOT add the respository mentioned above unless you know the consiquences. That is the in-development "it may break your N900" collection of software.

Just thought I should mention that as you might assume its the same as extras seeing as that was what you were asking about. People need to be a lot more careful, you shouldn't ever be just casually mentioning the development or testing repos as people might add them not realising the risks they are taking.

Incidentally, when you say it freezes half way, how long did you allow for it to complete? A lot is going on when you add a respository especially the first time, it could take a while.

Apologies, the second link has a mirror for all the repos though, not just the -testing and -devel ones.

i know the consequences. But i'm facing a choice, either to use mirrors and face the risk or be unable to download any programs. I think that having n900 without wide array of programs is waste of time and money. I had an Open Moko Freerunner Phone which broke recently and N900 is my replacement.

Use the extras mirror, it's harmless (or about as harmful as the extras repo itself), after all, it hosts the same files.

thanks, it worked! any idea why my phone can't use regular repository? i haven't fiddled with it yet so settings should be close to default

Re: extras down?

The repo seems to be down, it's not working for me either and opening this url: http://repository.maemo.org/extras brings up an error, when it opens up correctly on your PC it should work on your device.
