[Maemo 5] SSH Client (GUI-Based)?

Hello friends,

I have read that graphic user interfaced-based SSH clients were available for the older Maemo devices, namely the Putty GUI SSH client. Yet, I have been unable to locate a copy of this client for the N900.

Can anyone think of any graphic user interface based SSH clients for the N900? I can currently utilize SSH via the command line, but a nice GUI where I can save connections would be nice.

Please share any ideas, thank you!

Come on, you really don't need that. Learn how to write a "ssh_config" file and shell aliases and you have "saved connections" right in X terminal.

I will certainly look into writing an ssh_config file with shell aliases, but I was hoping there was a working Putty version (or other software) for this purpose with a GUI.

putty shouldnt be that hard to compile for the N900 - If I get a few mins tomorrow I can give it a shot.

That would be great, Bratag. I am still in the newer stage of learning Linux and not sure how to compile code (especially for the N900) yet.

Do you need the SDK to compile, or do you compile on the device? I noticed that GCC (Gnu C Compiler) seems to be missing from the device, but I'm sure I simply do not understand it enough yet.

Thanks

IMHO command line is much better, than GUI. On command linw I just write
ssh user@host -p port
Onder windows I have to use PuTTY, which is great, but I have to move my hands from keyboard to mouse several times, change default encoding, press tab to switch between fields. At leash 3 times longer.

Though you have to admit that it would be MUCH easier/faster to just tap a previously created 'profile' with server/port/username stored ;)

I've traditionally used the commandline too, but why crawl when you have the option of running :)

This is exactly my point, while the CLI is great, a GUI-based SSH client would be wonderful.

You can do absolutely the same with command line. Just an alias in bash, or shell script, you can launch script by some sort of widget/shortcut too.
And profiles are not for me. When I use PuTTY this means, that I'm working on one of computers in university, school (where I work now) or any other person's computer.
