how to make kmplayer the default media player on the n900

Hi,

I would like to know whether I can change the default media player to kmplayer, for instance i want to play a video file on the n900, it transfers me to the default media player, but is there any chance i can make it transfer me to the kmplayer because the default player does not play the media that i want it to?

i hope make sense, sorry for my awful english.

i would also like to know how to do this. kmplayer works much better than the default mplayer for streaming recordings from my home dvr. right now i have to let it open in mplayer and copy the address, then paste it into kmplayer.

Any suggestions for this could be pretty handy for quick playing non supported codecs in default media player.

I had the same issue myself just now and got it fixed like so:

In /usr/share/applications/defaults.list and /usr/share/applications/mimeinfo.cache, change the entry
video/x-msvideo=hildon-mp_ui.desktop
to..
video/x-msvideo=hildon-kmplayer.desktop

This will set kmplayer to open ".avi" files by default. There are several other file extensions listed that you can change.

For a complete overview of file extensions check out /usr/share/mime/globs

/usr/share/applications/hildon/* will give you an idea which applications you have to work with.

Cheers
