Bricked my N900 trying to get new update. Flasher tool to rescue?
 

Hi all,

I am currently the sad owner of a $600 Nokia Brick. See, I got excited for the new update yesterday and decided to download and install it. Well, I forgot to check battery charge and despite being hooked up via USB, it died when the progress of the update was at: "Time remaining: 1 second." What are the chances?

Now got a worthless N900.

Sooo, I decided to read online for ways to get it back running again and time after time I come across Nokia Flasher tool 3.5. So I studied the hell out of the process but I still can't get my phone back. Here is why my problem lies:

I get to the part where I hold "u" and connect USB cable. Well, the power does come on but that is it. No more, no less. I get a very, very dim "Nokia" logo. NO USB CHARGING icon in the top corner and NO BACKLIGHT at all. Just the dim screen and my computer does not respond to the N900 being plugged in. Oh, and the Nokia Flasher tool just sits there stating: "Suitable USB device not found, waiting." Nothing further.

So guess I am stuck since I cannot "put my phone in flash mode" by holding "u" and plugging in USB. Again, my N900 does NOT respond to being plugged in to USB.

If set aside in bedroom and with wall charger (not connected to PC), the N900 will keep showing the very dim "Nokia" logo and vibrate once (as if powering on) every 1.5 minutes or so.

Am I doing something wrong? SHOULD my PC react to the N900 being plugged in? Any ideas, suggestions, clues would be greatly appreciated

Unfortunately you seem to have bricked the phone in a way that stops it from charging properly. And until the battery is sufficiently charged, it won't go into USB flash mode.

So what you now need to do is charge the battery up externally (in a compatible phone or a desktop charger), then retry flashing.

Yes, you really need to get the battery charged before you can do anything. Continuing trying the flash will just deep-discharge the battery, which is not good.

Nice, I will try to full charge for several hours.

I had the same problem.

The Vanilla does ot work, try it with the latest global.

That worked fine!

Make sure that it actually charges.. you should have a slowly blinking yellow light (going green when full). I thought my phone was charging, but the yellow light was steady, not slowly blinking, so what I ended up doing was discharging the battery instead. I had to get an external charger to get out of the catch-22.
