mail from xterm
Hi,
I need to mail my sms backup from xterm. My N900's mass storage is corrupted and so I backup my conversation by making tarball of .rtcom-eventlogger. Now i want to mail it to my another account so that after flashing the emmc i can restore my conversation. How can I email from xterm? as 'mail' utility is not available. I also tried installing the mail with apt-get but it couldn't find the package 'mail'. Please help. Jawad. |
Re: mail from xterm
A few suggestions:
1. Install ssh on your maemo. You may then use scp or WinScp if you're a windows user to copy files from your N900 file system to your desktop. 2. If you have an ssh server you can also use scp from your device. 3. You can also use wget or curl to to http upload of your files if you have an http storage somewhere. 4. Regarding email look for mutt and or elm. And also, you don't explain why you can't use a the default mail client or the browser in order to send your files. Regards, Dov |
Re: mail from xterm
With default web browser i cannot browse to the my files. I tried with gmail and when i tapped on Browse button it opens the Select File dialog and don't allow me to browse files. I think it only allows to browse files from mass storage and it is corrupted.
With default mail client it opens Select attachment dialog (looks same as Select File dialog) and don't allow me to browse outside of my MyDocs folder. Thanks for your suggestions. I have already tried with elm and mutt, they are also not installed. I am now trying with ssh. :) |
Re: mail from xterm
I still believe the topic of this thread is a valid question. Has someone out there figured out how to send an outgoing email from the command prompt on the n900? Personally I'd like the option of incorporating such syntax into some shell scripts.

Re: mail from xterm
there probably isn't any cli mail clients available.... and I am betting built in mail client just don't handle cli input. there could be a way to do it via dbus but that probably isn't documented anywhere.
download qt sdk, go to irc and ask how to use QtMobility, compile and install and voila, you'll have cli mail client... http://doc.qt.nokia.com/qtmobility/serviceactions.html e: I'll try to find my N900 and see if I get something scraped up together. |
