Question about flash 10.1

So, when the 10.1 update arrives to the N900, will the specific flash video/file I'm using needs to support flash 10.1? Or will it work with any flash related software/video/game/whatever? Even if a certain game was made using flash 9?

First of all, has a 10.1 update been announced somewhere? If so, can you provide an URL please?

It won't, but it would help to re-encode your .flv into a H.264 if you've encoded it using old encoders that encoded in On2 VP6 - only the first one will have performance gain from the added hw acceleration. Apart from that, Flash has always been backwards compatible. Of course, if your player is done in AS2 it will run in AVM1 which is far slower and there is the same suggestion - update your code to AS3 and compile it to target FP 9 or later and you'll get additional performance boost.

@zwer: I see. Well, seems like it won't do too much... Is it even worth the hype after this fact?

It's still in beta, Beta 2 to be exact on the public facing part, a slight bit higher in private beta.

It certainly is if they manage to pull out what they've promised. You can't expect, tho, Flash app/site/whatever that was written by crappy developers 5 years ago without mobile usage of Flash on the horizon (Flash Lite is NOT Flash!) to work snappy - it uses old, non-JITed VM, horrible renderers (for today standards) and tons of other things that cannot be further optimized. If you want to read what it might and what it should bring in terms of performance, head HERE.
