Not enough memory in target location

Hello
I cant install the new maemo update I get the error message "Not enough memory in target location".

I have plenty of memory - around 27 gig. And I rebooted but to no avail.

Any idea how I can fix this irritating problem?

Cheers!

heya. there is only 256mb available for apps(separate memory chip). loooong story. search the forums for rootfs.
there are dedicated wiki pages that can also help you.

start by disabling extras testing and dev repositories if you have them enabled. should free up to 10mb.

Thanks. Apparantly this update is 16.2 mb. I can't understand why I don't have the space to install this. I have disabled test repositries (if i understand correctly) - ie the application catalogues...

Re: Not enough memory in target location

I think you installed too many un-optified apps from the Extra-Devel. Therefore it eaten all of your rootfs space, which will lead to not enough space requires by the installation requirement. The root space is where the download check before it allowing to pass the check constraint.

You will need at minimum of 48MB free inside the rootfs.

Type: df -h

into command Xterminal and the top line should say rootfs and space used and available. and also %.

Disable the Extra-Devel and Extra-Testing will freeing up to 27MB of rootfs. Why?? Because the application manager caching all the applications lists into the tmp folder in rootfs. Disable them would lead to free some space require to update the OS OTA.

The Rootfs space is very limited and only 256MB large. So that is why we do not recommending anyone without good knowledge and understand of Linux and applications in Devel to download anything from Devel as recommendation. We usually warned them do not installed anything from Devel unless you know what you are doing, other wise it potentially can kill or corrupt your OS on the device and lead to many problems and instability.

Please read Wiki for more information on how to free your "rootfs" space, and if you still can't free up enough space to do OTA update then I would recommending you to do uninstalling the applications or a reflashing with the Flasher 3.5, tutorial is available on Wiki, also I would suggest you to Flash the eMMC as well, since you probably got too many unstable software (s) on it. It might lead to infinity loop.

Hope all the best.

thx yes i have installed a load of devel stuff that has clearly screwed my system. I freed up 52 mb using apt-get clean and so have updated to the new maemo now. Still, don't like the idea of a load of crap filling up the system so maybe I will look into your flashing advice. Cheers.

mohomadmg has a number of posts on numerous sites. basically move var/lib and the apt folders to the opt directories. moving themes folder helps alot as they install to root.

Re: Not enough memory in target location

Why am I getting this error message "Not enough memory in target location" when I try to update the newest firmware?. I have never used(enabled) the Extras Testing or Extras Dev repository on my N900 because I am very cautious. The 50 apps that I downloaded are either from Ovi or Maemo Extras. Is that the reason why?...are all the apps that I download from Ovi and Maemo Extras stored on the 256mb rootfs location?

Re: Not enough memory in target location

I just deleted like 10 apps totaling up to about 55mb of free space. Yet I still can't download the newest firmware that is 16mb. When I do df -h on xterminal, it says I have 34.5 mb available on rootfs. I definitely deleted more than 50mb of apps, yet it still shows 34.5mb available. But the weird part is, even if i did have just 34.5mb left, I should be able to download the firmware since it's 16mb. But I can't, keep getting "Not enough memory in target location" Any idea?
