(Pidgin|Extra) Protocols plugins for Conversations and Contacts

Can someone tell me the difference between these two offerings:

http://maemo.org/downloads/product/M...t-plugin-haze/
Pidgin protocols plugin for Conversations and Contacts
AIM, Facebook, GaduGadu, Groupwise, ICQ, MSN, QQ, Sametime & Yahoo

A plugin for configuring accounts supported by libpurple, the same library Pidgin uses. The plugin adds support for the following protocols: AIM, Facebook Chat, GaduGadu, ICQ, MSN, QQ, Sametime, and Yahoo.

http://maemo.org/packages/view/telepathy-extras/
Extra protocol plugins for Conversations and Contacts
AIM, Facebook, GaduGadu, Groupwise, ICQ, MSN, link-local XMPP, Yahoo & more

This metapackage pulls in all the optional Telepathy packages and their account plugins. It enables use of the following protocols: AIM, Facebook Chat, GaduGadu, Groupwise, ICQ, MSN, QQ, link-local XMPP, Sametime and Yahoo.

Same maintainer, differerent libs?

Bump.

I've been wondering about this myself.

Same here.
I have moved to N900 after being a loyal WinMo customer since 5 years.
As it is the linux terminology is very new to me and most of the stuff here is so deeply technical, I cant make sense of it.
It is always good to explain your products in the layman terms to have a larger market.

Use the Pidgin one. If you install the other one, it will automatically install the Pidgin one for you. But if you install Pidgin, it will not install the other one. What I've noticed so far: The pidgin one has an option for AIM to allow more than 1 login (simultaneously). The other one does not have that option.

Hello All Need some help.

My "Pidgin protocols plugin for Conversations and Contacts" is not letting me sign into Yahoo Messenger.

It keeps saying "Not Signed In"

I have PR3.1 and am using the N900

Any ideas?

if you want to sign into yahoo messenger, use "Extra protocol...", instead of "Pidgin protocol...".
"Pidgin protocol" gives "not signed in" message, but "Extra protocol" let you sign into yahoo

Re: (Pidgin|Extra) Protocols plugins for Conversations and Contacts

I am trying to sign into AIM with Pidgin Extra Protocol and Plugins for Contacts and I keep getting an error that says Username or Password incorrect. When I enter in my info on the computer, it works fine. Anyone else having this issue?
