Simple Brightness Applet fixes/improvements
 

Many of us use this small and useful applet, but it doesn't even have its garage page or even forum thread. So this is one, but "unofficial".

I would really like that button on the left (the one which gives you "display settings" and "keep display on" options) to be only "keep display on" option, because 99% of users use this button only for keeping the display on. And now there is always an extra tap to do. Other display settings are also needed much less frequently.

Next message to the author is bug report. It is not critical, it's the size of the widget itself. It's too big on the right side, bigger than other widgets (for a few pixels) and it makes the menu ugly. Space between aforementioned button and brightness control should be a little narrower so the widget doesn't "stick out" on the right.

i think qwerty has done an amazing job of making this widget :)
even down to the extra click required it works well for people I have seen using it.
(how do you get your 99% metric?)

Removing the tickbox from where he has it would mean messing with the control panel applet itself and that just adds to the overall complexity and I, for one, like his approach :)

if you have a bug report, file it in bugs.maemo.org or use the correct bugtracker information in his package field, there is no guarantee that Faheem will see this, though he probably will ;)

thats the sort of thing designers would notice and i bet related to the uniform size of the nobbles, but some of the gap may be possible to be removed between the icon and the first nobble.

its on my essential applications list everytime I install and one of the most naturally integrated tweaks I have seen :)

Well, if you look at other display settings you see that they aren't such ones to be needed commonly. I don't mind the extra tap as I don't use this function often, but I think it was a good idea and I put it here so people can discuss it. You never know, maybe really 99% of the people would like to have it like I suggested (the estimation came from looking at other options).

Also, I prefer to put it here, especially because I know that the author is going to see it (qwerty, btw, thanks for all your applets!) and we can also discuss it.

Also: not relevant, but "...Removing the tickbox from where he has it would mean messing with the control panel applet itself..." is not true.

it's called BRIGHTNESS widget - not display settings widget. ^^

Both options will stay. I do have to admit that I don't use it often, but I don't want to incur the wrath of users that do. :)

Plus, I don't like the idea of making "Keep Display On" easily activatable for obvious reasons.

Alas, this is what happens when you use a deprecated widget. I didn't want to, but since Nokia use it in their applet to provide the brightness slider, I had to use it too so that it would share the same look. :\

The gap could be made smaller, though; thanks, I'll try and lower the space used.

Ok, I've measured the difference. It's 2 pixels. Small, but noticeable. So decrease the spacing for 2 pixels and it should be fine.

if I want to download the new update seems to me the following error message: "Some needed program for updating packages are missing"

missing packages: libhildon1 (> = 2.2.10)

Fremantle Autobuilder is using the PR 1.2 SDK and I can't override that. :)

(I know - waiting until we actually had the update would've been nice, but...)
