xterminal screen buttons
 
when i open the xterminal i have some controls in the screen
the first at the left (before the Ctrl) is an arrow
What is it for?

It's for selecting (copying) text. If the X Terminal data is all on the one screen then you can just tap & drag to select. Once the buffer holds more than a single screen, this switches to allow scrolling back through the screen buffer. In this case you can use that arrow icon to re-enable selection.
