nokia files patent for self charging battery
wow this sounds cool very exciting for the future worth keeping an eye on
"A battery for an electronic device is contained within a first frame that is coupled to a second frame by one or more piezoelectric elements. The second frame is coupled to a device chassis by one or more additional piezoelectric elements. In response to translation and/or rotation of the electronic device, portions of forces induced by the battery mass are transferred to the piezoelectric elements. Electrical energy output by these piezoelectric elements is received in a power controller and can be applied to the battery. Additional device components can also be contained within the first frame so as to increase the total mass that induces forces applied to the piezoelectric elements." read on at US PATENT & TRADEMARK OFFICE |
Re: nokia files patent for self charging battery
cool.. sounds like a perputual motion device and the idea is similar to a dynamo for bicycle lights.

Re: nokia files patent for self charging battery
wicked as long as you dont have to shake the phone for ages and end up dropping it.
|
Re: nokia files patent for self charging battery
I don't think it's meant to be charged by shaking, it's more of a extending battery life before you have to recharge. Which is ofcourse awesome. Any way to get more life from a battery is surely win.
And I quote from the site given: Quote:

Re: nokia files patent for self charging battery
My watch self-charges in this manner with a rotating weight inside that drives a micro-generator and hasn't needed a battery change yet (7 years and counting).
It'd be great if this works for phone batteries but it is hard to see how enough meaningful current could be produced, especially when you consider the space lost to this additional mechanism/electronics - this presumably will impact on the space for the battery cells themselves? |

Re: nokia files patent for self charging battery
would be awesome..... for example... you have 52% battery.... you are late to catch the train... so you put your n900 in your pocket and start to run..... when you are fast enough you will catch the train and through the movement of your leg your battery will be recharged to 55%....
thats great ... about 2 month ago i ve read about a battery witch charges when it is in range of a wlan.network.... combine these 2 technologies and you will maybe loose 250-400mah beacause of lost space.... but your battery will last longer beacause of movement and wlan.... |
Re: nokia files patent for self charging battery
so n900 fly application will display amount of battery charge on drop to concrete ? :D
instead usage of car charger i can put n9.. on dashboard and bumpy romanian roads will do the job. this is green ........ putting a piezo under keyboard also will charge battery . should i patent this ? |
Re: nokia files patent for self charging battery
This is somewhat theoretical question:
Does this kind of tech increase the inertia/momentum of the battery? WRT spinning a raw vs. cooked egg? I mean, the energy has to come from somewhere... naturally this kind of system wouldn't convert kinetic energy very efficiently, so the effect would not be a large one. |
Re: nokia files patent for self charging battery
Wearable piezoelectric generating clothes will be the real breakthrough for this tech sector.
Loose weight and charge your phone in one foul swoop. |
