New to Maemo/Linux
Hello everyone,
I have just ordered myself an N900 and I am reasonably PC literate but my experience is more hardware and Windows based with a little Mac OS thrown in. I have considered looking into Linux in the pas but never really had reason to. However this could well be the start of something... Therefore please forgive any ignorant and seemingly stupid questions I may ask but I figure if im going to get involved then I probably should do it here Cheers Rich |
Re: New to Maemo/Linux
Hey RichD,
I was like you a couple weeks ago, and now I'm already installing the programming tools under Ubuntu to play with my N900... It's addictive!!! Cheers! Btw, this post should be merged with the new users thread... |
Re: New to Maemo/Linux
RichD, if you want to learn a lot about Linux on multiple levels, I can suggest a few sites.
www.raiden.net <- my old tech site. I recently handed it over to the community, so it's under different ownership, but they're still very much focused on helping the new user learn about Linux. www.phoronix.com <- great site for learning about hardware under Linux. www.tuxmachines.org <- Lots of great Linux news, tutorials and info collected from the web. www.linuxdevices.com <- A great list of all known Linux powered hardware. ...and of course, this site! :D Hope those are a help to you. |
Re: New to Maemo/Linux
Cool. Thank you.
I have managed to rearrange my partitions and install Ubuntu alongside Vista and I managed to set up my Wireless network which was a mission and I half. I have a Marvall Libertas chipset and the native Ubuntu drivers dont work for this card so I had to use the Windows driver and download some special software debians to install Windows drivers! Got there in the end though. |
