Flimsy screen?
Yesterday my N900 suffered a fall from about hip height to the floor of my office. When I picked it up I noticed that there were six fine lines running from the top left to bottom right of the screen. The case and outside of the screen appear totally undamaged. Upon turning the screen on it was apparent that the LCD had broken internally and there were quite a few dead pixels along the cracks in the LCD.
This morning it looks like the number of dead pixels has grown quite a bit. I guess I have two questions for everyone here: 1. Has anyone else had this problem? Granted it was my fault that I dropped the phone, but I was shocked that such a short fall to a carpeted floor caused so much damage 2. Has anyone had their screen replaced? If so, how much did it cost? I don't want to have too much invested in this phone if it is that incredibly fragile. Thanks everyone! |

Re: Flimsy screen?
Its not just the height and what its hitting its the angle of the hit. I have dropped mine over a dozen times but all have hit on the back of the phone. Normally a fall with the phone landing on the edge seem to break them more.

Re: Flimsy screen?
This guy made a video of a drop from headheight onto concrete without affecting the screen (although not the casing) so as andrewfblack says, it depends on the angle of the drop...i suppose you were just very unlucky!

Re: Flimsy screen?
I am hoping I am just really unlucky and that the phone is generally more robust. I can't say for sure exactly how it landed, but I suspect it hit a corner and caused the screen to flex on the diagonal. I'll probably get it fixed but I'm not sure I want that much in a phone when I've just proven to be a little too clumsy for smart phones. ;-)
