n900 as a modem on Opensuse 11.2

When I connect n900 via usb to my laptop,it appears as a GSM modem (in PC suite mode). If I try to dial up connection with this modem, nothing seems to happen at all. What I mean is I do not even see activating activity in the GUI.But in the NetworkManager log,I see this.

Now if I try to use wvdial on /dev/ttyACM0,I always get busy status for device.

I can switch phone to Tablet mode(whatever that means).As a tablet in PC suite mode,Networkmanager shows following activity.I can see activating activity on Desktop.But it never concludes.Follows NetworkManager log output of this event;

Though the Phone shows good signal, carrier often seems to go OFF and ON trying to connect as a modem. As the line below shows,it seems configuration seems to reach end.But again CARRIER goes off. This must be something related device handling,as the phone signal is good through out

I have seen the wiki on configuring bluetooth DUN,but my Laptop's bluetooth hardware has died. Also,I would like to use the USB GSM modem that appears.Could anybody help me understand what is going on and what I needs to do to get it working?

Thanks in Advance.

Re: n900 as a modem on Opensuse 11.2

Hi
your question/problem old - but may be still unsolved ?
I have my N900 connected to 3G via Bluetooth with openSUSE 11.2 without any problem once I figured out what my earlier problems were. Out of the box.
I never tried to connect to 3G via USB cable because the 3G signal always is much stronger if I can move my N900 around and away from my laptop.
May be some of my BT DUN steps help you with your USB 3G connection ??

Good luck

Re: n900 as a modem on Opensuse 11.2

Thanks much.

The key seems to be bluetooth pairing which cannot happen as the bluetooth on my laptop is dead. Thanks anyway.

Re: n900 as a modem on Opensuse 11.2

the pairing apparently works only with the KDE3 tools and NOT KDE4 as published in one of my blog articles: Howto pair openSuSE 11.2 bluetooth with Nokia devices
however
since 2 or so days my own DUN connection fails as well. I am too busy with server upgrade but i have to look into that new problem again asap
since we now have opensuse 11.3 out already since a few days, its time for upgrade asap and things might work again the published traditional way.
