Developing ON the N900
Hello!
I'm new to the Maemo-Nokia thing. I'm thinking of buying a N900. However, I have a couple of questions. I only use FreeBSD. From what I can deduce from a simple survey of the forums, it seems the SDK is only available to linux-machines, or, possible, thrue a WM like Virtualbox. Is this correct? Anyone developing for the N900 using FreeBSD as host? What about compiling C-programs directly on the N900? Possible? Is there a compiler on the N900 itself that one could use to compile directly on the N900 device? Oh, one more question: is git (scm) available on the N900? Regards /Benny |
Re: Developing ON the N900
Hi,
I use PyGTKEditor as source editor, i use python as main language so i cannot confirm that gcc is usable on the n900 but i know lcuk use it. And yes git is available, but git push doesn't work as some libs haven't the required compilation directive. Regards, |
Re: Developing ON the N900
I compile it on ubuntu and push the binary to the n900.

Re: Developing ON the N900
when setting up to use qt i asked about on device compilation. i was told the n900 is just a tad too slow to make it a pleasant experience. compilation apparently takes a LONG time

Re: Developing ON the N900
i have coppied the armel scratchbox from desktop to /home/user on n900. it works. but is somewhat slow. i chroot into it to use it but i guess this is not essential.

Re: Developing ON the N900
Thanks for the replies! I have a better grasp of things now. I think I will try to compile on the N900 itself. I only have small programs and I dont mind long compile-times.
Also, I notice the MADDE project, looks very interresting. I might do python later on. Thanks. |
