Metatrader on N900?
 

Hello everyone,

I am considering purchasing the Nokia N900. I am wondering if Metatrader (a software for trading) will install and work on it.

Apparently it works for linux, after a bit of work to install. Here is a description:

Can someone try to install Metatrader and tell me if it works?

I also know there is a mobile version for Windows Mobile, which is why I am considering the HD2 as well. But I'd rather get the N900, if I can get this working.

It wont work on n900, sorry to say. Not only is it a windows program (running on x86 linux using a windows emulation/wrapping layer) but the N900 is a completely different type of processor chip (architecture). N900 uses an ARM processor, whilst desktop windows programs need an x86 processor.

Because it's a java based application, the initial reaction is that it will not work. But apparently some people have been able to install Oanda on their N900's, so I am wondering if there is a way to make it work.

There is a desktop application as well, that runs on Java:

There is a java test applet for Oanda that would make it very easy to test on the N900.

Tested the link. Doesnt work as expected. There is no java applet plugin for any maemo browsers that I know of yet (microb, fennec, opera).

I know theres a few people eagerly awaiting such a feature so check back occasionally and search for icedtea jvm (working on n900 but no browser plugin yet).

i tried to open that url thru chromium without success. interested in this tool too. despite its limitations, n900 is the most accurate for realtime trading tools. btw, i also have a tg01, which specifications are close to the hd2, but its browser(s) are limited. the best is skyfire, but there is not multitab, the second best is iris with the multitab but without java. android appears to have skyfire 2.0 which is multitab capable

you trade on the n900 ? which real time tools are you referring to ? have you encountered any issues with these real time tools ? also which provider are you with and what do you trade ?

I personally dont want to risk it at all because you have real money on the line and there is no support for n900/maemo. When I am trading I dont want to have a software lockup or even a slight hiccup (especially in today's mkt) that could risk stuffing up my orders. I only rarely use the n900 to exit trades via web.

if i could be assured of rock solid stability i would use the n900, but i am not confident.

I wouldn't trust the N900 for something as important as trades.

i check prices thru google finance, which is almost real time. yahoo finance also has real time prices, the yahoo one is data intensive and i use when wifi is available. i place orders in the investment firm website. all is encrypted, and one can always verify the status of the order. risk are on someone looking over your shoulder on your password, or if u loose the phone, u should change all passwords, and that's for all phones. i buy and sell stocks.
