N900 won't resume from screen lock
 

My apologies if this is a duplicate - couldn't find anything related from searching...

My N900 hung the other day during an update. Now, every time the screen locks (automatically or manually), it will not resume.

SSH sessions freeze and the device does not respond to input (won't even power off). I need to remove the battery and power on to unbrick it.

I've re-flashed it, but still get the same problem (want to avoid an EMMC re-flash if possible). I was running some dev-extras apps, so I'm not expecting any sympathy :)

Has anyone else experienced the same (or a similar) problem? Anything I can try before nuking it?

Take the battery out of the device, wait half a minute, and take it back.

First reflash with the vanilla firmware (this will erase your eMMC, so you should make a backup before it), and then reflash with the latest firmware.

If that doesn't do it, something serious is wrong.

I left the battery out for a few minutes. So far it is behaving, but the issue is a little temperamental - will be a little while until I know if it worked.

If it dies again, I'll try re-flashing firmware & eMMC and then post the results.

No.
You'll try reflashing the eMMC & the firmware. (The order is important here.)

well it's still working, so it looks like removing the battery for a few mins worked.

I think I may have a battery issue..

I ran the battery down over the weekend and the device turned itself off. After I plugged it in the charger and turned it back on, the lock/resume issue started happening again. Removing the battery didn't work this time.

I then charged it fully (via USB) and removed the battery for 5 mins and it started working again... but after an hour or so on screen lock, it won't resume.

I'm thinking there is an issue with my battery - current probably drops to a point the phone thinks it is out of juice. I might try buy a second battery and see if that fixes this issue.

By keeping the battery charged, I have been able to avoid this issue/bug... I have been using "lshal | grep percent" (in xterm) to check the battery level (ignore the battery widget).

Hopefully this is helpful to people desperately googling around for a mysterious screen lock issue (as I was).
