is there a way to implement major holidays into a calendar?

Do you mean like public holidays? If so, there are several .ics files floating around the Internet that you can import into the calendar.

how do we get the file into calender? Cant see an import function.

I think you can open them directly from file manager, but I don't have any to test right now. (The ones from apple.com don't seem to download for me). I agree there probably should be an import action in the calendar app itself.

Yes file manager import works. I did this a while back - you can have as many calendars as you like. Each one is coloured differently so you know e.g. work is orange, and personal is green.

thanks guys, downloaded from above link, transfered to the memory card, opened with file manager and saved to calendar works like a charm
