i tried it with a 2gb micro sd. .

the phone shows zero lag now !!!

its like i upgraded the ram of my pc. . .

i ve been on 8days uptime. . wit no performance issues. .

this fixes the issuse of answering a call while watching a movie on the device. . . The new virtual ram available to the device make it run smooth, no matter how much multitasking i try!!!!

plz bak up ur micro sd data before u try this stunt in xterm

Use the link;

download the moveroot.sh script.

copy the script to ur n900s my docs folder.

and use the script, mentioned in the thread!!!

ws having real lag issuses while multitask so . . .tht id share my findings. . .

Do try it wit a 16gb card. . . i did it wit my friends card. .

i could open 20 web pages. . . run a movie. . . be on a call on gtalk. . and download a torrent at 584 kbps with zero lag. . . .

It's good to keep in mind that this flash virtual memory is not as fast as dedicated RAM. There's a good limit to quantity vs. performance. I think 768MB of virtual RAM and 256MB of dedicated RAM is fine enough.

Be careful here - I am lead to believe that the N900 has a magnetic sensor that detects when the back plate has been removed and automatically un-mounts the SD card. There is also evidence that this magnetic sensor can get triggered by external magnets like the ones some people use in pouches. There is a bug logged for this but I cant for the moment find it.

It would be somewhat disastrous if the SD card was occasionally unmounted while being used as swap would it not??

This is very interesting because i am encountering a lot of lag recently and every time i check conky the ram is way over 70%! I have read that if it gets too high the phone will crash.

Not sure what i installed recently that caused this to happen but i just want to know if this is actually safe to do if followed properly with no performance issues except of course faster Multitask. Also any specific SD card i should look into? i know there is different generations but also know that Kingston tends to be the one to go to. Any suggestions? also there wouldn't happen to be a tutorial video about this would there?

Not the swap RAM for me. On Conky it shows the 256 ram at 70% but my swap ram is almost always below 50% >.<. Not sure why but this just started happening recently.

There was a myth, for a while, that the N800 and N810 would be faster if you enabled swap space. This was only in the imagination - I tested this. And there's no rational reason it should be faster, except in very carefully thought out scenarios that won't happen with normal use.

o Adding excessive amounts of swap _will_ make your device slower, eventually. Particularly if you keep your applications (e.g. browser) running at all times.
