Push notification?
Hi,
On my Mac i use a notification framework calls Growl (which is similar to Specto, Mumbles or GNotify in the linux world. One advantage is that there is a plugin called Prowl, which is basically a plugin for Growl and an App for the iPhone. So it allows you to forward all the notifications send on a local machine, to be forwarded on a iPhone or ipod Touch. pretty useful if you have some hardware you have to watch or if you wait for a specific mail or whatever... your Mac at home can watch what ever had to be checked and send you a notification directly to your device (if you have a connection). so i was wondering if someone is on the way to implement some kind of notification system like that? IMHO the system is a bit different to the normal push email system. it is more the underlaying system on which the push mail system is running. cu assetburned edit: i forgot we got libnotify already. so we basically have something like growl already... so the prowl part is missing. |
Re: Push notification?
will it be possible to further extend this to email and social network push messages?

Re: Push notification?
I'd also like to see this to happen, since I tend to keep my N900 hidden, so that even I won't always notice, that it's ringing or I've received a message. This would really be a great improvement, and I'd vote for it, if I could find the brainstorm. :D
PS: I have quite low knowledge on Maemo's actions/programs/etc so I'll have to ask this. Is the "libnotify" included in the system? |
