MPlayer max video resolution

hi, if I try to watch a video with 800x480 resolution or greater with mplayer do not see it properly. Why? is a settings problem in "mplayer.conf?

there are already so many threads about this topic.

a video defines itself with much more than just resolution.

there are many important aspects as container, video/audio codec/bitrate, fps and so on...

so... if you want to know why your video isn't working... please post all of these aspects :)

On2 VP6, any bitrate and any fps. the audio.
the audio has no problems, only the video is totally confused, "the image is totally ruined".

what? ^^

my suggestion would be:

1. don't use videos with a resolution over 800 * 480 px... (it just doesn't make any sense)
2. reencode your video. best choice would be an MP4 container with "standard" video (mpeg4 aka AVC/H.264) and audio (AAC) with proper bitrates for the n900 (around 1200kbps for video and 128kbps for audio)

unfortunately there isn't any guideline which describes the optimal settings for this... so you may have to test different configs :)

I've found that 500kbps for video is sufficient, got the idea from bbiplayer videos

500 kpbs could cause block building in faster scenes... it depends on what movie you want to convert...

for "low-speed" movies 500kbps are ok... for "high-speed" action movies everything over 1000kbps would be ok... ^^

i just wanted to view a video which was recorded with a mobile phone (samsung omnia hd i8910) and its really bad that n900 is not able to play it ,it would be nice if it upscales the video to 800x480 res.

Nexus one is able to play 720p video without any hiccups :P

Anyways i love my n900, playing a 720p video is not a big deal for me :)

I don't own N900, but doesn't -zoom flag work with n900 build of mplayer?

e.g. mplayer -zoom -x 800 -y 480 <filename>

If it works like normal mplayer builds, then above command should downscale higher resolution video to fit n900 screen.
