Quake Live on N900?

2 Attachment(s)
Hello,

The Quake Live plugin installs on the n900 but the page does not load past the configuration page.

Does anyone know anything about the possibility of playing Quake Live on our n900s? Why wont it load even with the plugin installed? I don't know anything from the technical side of this.

Any ideas on how to get this to work? I think it would be a great addition to the n900s arsenal and a great attention grabber. Maybe it will work with Firefox mobile.

I tried to fire up the site in Fennec (running nightly build from today) and it promptly crashed the browser when I clicked on "Play Now for Free". I never got a chance to install the plugin :(

No problem, your post got me all excited since I had not even considered running Quake Live on the N900 :D
Sounds like it might be close though, especially if you were able to successfully install/load the plugin

I agree that it may be close enough. I hope someone can help us by taking a look or using their linux expertise to come up with a solution.

Quake Live requires a binary plug-in to run. I'm not sure if they offer an ARM plug-in. Just a x86 plugin as far as I know.

You're better off installing ioquake3 and Quake 3 data files.

While a cool idea, I can't imagine how this would be playable ;)

is there a quick and easy way to do this yet? last i saw in the ioquake3 thread, you still had to do a bit of messing around in xterm (and the data files werent in the repos)

After you installed ioquake3, just place your quake files into /home/user/.q3a and start playing. It's not as difficult as you make it sound. You get a pretty Quake 3 icon in your menu.

Well the fact that the quake files are not in the repo makes it a little more difficult (have to manually wget them from ??? and copy them by hand through xterm, since I cannot access my phone through SCP/SSH for a couple weeks)

I thought Quake3 was opensourced, why aren't the data files in the repo?

Anyways, this thread is not the place to complain about ioquake3's shortcomings. Quake Live on the N900 would be a lot simpler for about 80% of the users out there.
