Re: iPhone 4.0 OS claimed to come with multitasking
It's 'more or less' multitasking:
+ (potentially) more resource efficient (battery, cpu, memory) + (potentially) contributes to a consistently smooth user experience due to the above - developers need to make use of special APIs to define which parts of their app need access to these 'background running services'. - This approach seems to cover a large need of multitasking on mobile devices, but not all. |
Re: iPhone 4.0 OS claimed to come with multitasking
its s60 multitasking but without any background multitasking. so not really multitasking.
also how does anyone know what battery life will be like when its not even released yet. iphone already as crap battery life so this will make battery life even worse, reason why theres no real multitasking is b/c it would only last 1 hour |

The true power drain of 'multitasking' depends on what the background apps are doing. If you just load 50 apps that does nothing, all they do is drain your swap space. The 3GS and N900 has very similar spec. Cortex A8 with 1300-ish mah power source, similar sized screen, wifi and 3g. So they have similar 'power drain' centers. |

iphone os as not changed it freezes states in background and then just pushes the normal notifications in most cases they think by adding a task dock and a icon that its now multitasking |

What you've just defined was the current state of things with iPhone OS3. Most apps already save their states when you exit and resumes when you start them again, and pushes notification when they need to get your attention when they're inactive. |
