Is The SIM Card Required?
I just ordered a Nokia N900 for myself full well knowing that I can't get GSM service in my area. I wan't to know if I will run into any problems with out a sim card. I am more interested in the Wifi service than using it as a phone. Thanks probably a dumb question but. . .

No it's not required to use other functionality

No, you are fine with just WiFi. But Tmobile prepaid is cheap.

Re: Is The SIM Card Required?
You don't need a SIM card. I use my N900 this way at the moment, since I'm almost always in WiFi range and get extremely cheap CDMA service, so I haven't switched to a GSM carrier yet.
You won't be able to make cellular calls/SMS without a SIM of course. You can still use VOIP and do everything else with the N900. It may take longer for the GPS to establish a fix without the AGPS support from a cell tower, though. Generally takes me up to 5 minutes with a clear view of the sky. |

Wasn't there something electrically different when no sim card was in the device? I vaguely remember something from the Maemo summit before it launched, not sure if that was only for pre-release devices though
