Tested Apps for N800
Here is a list of some of the apps I have been testing on my N800, and how they have been working...
Joe: Joe's Own Editor Runs well, however if you pull up the help menu, you can't see the right side of it. It does show a clock at the top with I love, and works very well with Stowaway BTK. Use the MAN page for it: http://www.die.net/doc/linux/man/man1/joe.1.html Pine: Email Yes... it is a CLI, but if you have as many people looking at your system, and maybe screwing around with things, you would make it difficult for them also. However, I do like Pine. Used it for years. Free42: Calculator Works fine, as long as you know how to use an HP calc. Personally, I don't use it, only tested it. Xournal Only works if you grab the patch from: http://henryykt.googlepages.com/xournalforn800 Evince Document Reader No problems at all. A Must have. GIAM Internet Messenger Working great for me. Just make sure you add the protocols you will be using. Do this with the App Manager. Dungeon Master and Chaos Strikes Back Haven't gone to far with these, but they are starting up and running. Obscura Photo Manager Slick little image viewer. I'd recommend it. MPV: Maemo Process Viewer A must have... Easy way to kill the apps that just won't die... Maemo Periodic I have to admit, I feel geeky enough walking around with the N800, but there is no way in hell I am going to use this app to show what the system can do. And it is a pretty cool app... if your in to periodic tables and stuff... which I'm not... VNC and x11vnc Both work great. Changed the display on my Macbook Pro to 720x480, and wow... Mac OSX on a N800! Back the other direction worked just as well. FreeCiv This is one game I suck at, but my co-workers play it all the time. I'm trying to use this as the reason they all need to buy one. GFrotz: Text Adventures Plays all of my old Infocom games, but have not tested it with any of the graphical ones... ScummVM Running several of my LucasArts games, but not all. CGoban Maemo GUI for the GNUGo game. Runs very well... Nethack Is there a system this game doesn't run on? FBReader This is the main reason I got the system... Love them books! I will keep adding more as I continue testing. If there is something you want me to try, short of bricking my system. let me know. Also, what have you tried that is working for you? |
Re: Tested Apps for N800
Works for me: privoxy, maemo mapper, battle gweled, those puzzles games, some of the other things you have already listed. But your list is quite comprehensive, why don't you just update the wiki? http://maemo.org/maemowiki/OS2007_Tested_Applications
It could need some update (although I must admit I don't care much for the wiki software used on maemo.org, it's not terribly efficient). |
Re: Tested Apps for N800
Xournal on N800 (with patch) has still problems. After a few faster strokes the display ist very much behind while CPU usage hits 100% for a while. It's still not seriously usable (yes, if suffer from this...).

Re: Tested Apps for N800
In the spirit of memory mapping, though, you can use colors and scrawl and draw arrows, things that are hard to do while typing. The Maemo Pad+ or whatever it is called also has the scrawling feature. I'm still looking for a nifty note taking app like 1) thebrain or 2) brainstorm or 3) kdissert or 4) vym or 5) mindjet. And there have been many others like them. Xournal has potential.

Re: Tested Apps for N800
thanks for the lists :)
I tried Maemo Process Viewer but it did nothing when I selected it from the Extra folder. Is there more to installing it other than clicking on the deb and letting app manager install it? will play some more... |
