connecting n900 to computer to type
this may sound liek a total Noob question, but was wondering if you could operate your n900 using the computer in some way? I saw something on a website about filezilla, but when i downloaded i couldnt work out how to connect them up. there didnt seem to be any instructions!
If its possible, would somebody be so kind as to spell it out for me in a really simple straight forward way so I can give it a try please? Thanks so much guys! Janni |
Re: connecting n900 to computer to type
you need to install VNC on your N900 and another one on your PC.
tightVNC is popular. Edit: view a thread by me earlier where some users had some great ideas http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=50231 |

Re: connecting n900 to computer to type
I think a simpler and more standard way for file transfer is sshfs; especially if you are on the same wireless network. (there's no cables needed)
Code:
sshfs root@192.168.0.100:/home/user/ /home/user/n900 Similarly, Code:
ssh root@192.168.0.100 Though if you need to type in the GUI the previously mentioned VNC solution is optimal, IMHO. |

Re: connecting n900 to computer to type
all
have a look for your terminal application (black square icon with a $> in top left corner) if you'r looking for ssh and sshfs, afaik they are preinstalled (at least ssh is on os x). for vnc there are several how-tos on the net (ask google for further information on a proper client for mac) this is one of those http://www.wikihow.com/Setup-VNC-on-Mac-OS-X the maemo side is clear I guess?! you need to install the vnc server and set it up for your needs. another way would be to forward your x-display to another machine (works on current os Xs too) http://developer.apple.com/opensourc...unningx11.html EDIT: there was a problem with forwarding n900s x-display but I dont find it's explanation, you may have a look on your own |
