Chip maker, Intel Corp has said that it is working on MeeGo operating system which will be available for general laptops and desktops.

The company has already released another version for developers, a notebook variant and also a MeeGo for Nokia's N900 smartphones. Reportedly the company will aim at incorporating MeeGo in desktops with Intel's Atom processors.

The company said that it wants the OS to work in laptops and desktops which are powered by Intel Core processors. Intel did not disclose the release date of the OS.

This smells of brand oversaturation (?) like what ASUS did with their EEE line...

Re: Intel to launch MeeGo OS for PCs

It's not the same as putting "Intel" or "Nokia" brand on everything... the "meego" (sub?)brand to me indicates a lean OS optimized for computing on the go. Something with features and design which I don't necessarily want on my main machine. Even if they execute the MeeGo desktop correctly, it'll only further confuse the customers of what the basic traits/selling points of MeeGo will be... imho.
