TMC - Traffic messaging in Maemo Mapper
What are the chanses that we can get support for the TMC service to provide traffic messages in Maemo Mapper? Since we do have a FM (RDS) receiver internally in the N800 the prerequisites should be there, no? Is there a license issue related to this type of broadcasts?
My main problem is to decide whether to go for a fixed mounted GPS with "full monty" or to go the budget way with a bluetooth GPS receiver along with the internet tablet. IŽd really want the traffic messages... (Is there a thing like a bluetooth GPS receiver with TMC support) |

I'd agree that the chip only supports FM, not FM+RDS.
I wonder whether it's actually possible (with the right kind of FM receiver) to grab these signals and use them? Are the location tables available anywhere? (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Traffic_Message_Channel). Si |
Re: TMC - Traffic messaging in Maemo Mapper
I realize this thread was started more along the lines of pushing for a "messaging" feature of traffic conditions but I just got my Cingular Samsung Blackjack 3 days ago and I noticed the google app on my Blackjack will display an overlay of traffic conditions. Is it possible to integrate this feature into the present Maemo Mapper? Just having a overlay of traffic conditions would be an awesome feature!
By the way, I think this would be easily supported on both N770 and N800 since it does not require the use of FM?? |
Re: TMC - Traffic messaging in Maemo Mapper
Another, neater, way to put traffic conditions on would be to use GeoRSS or geo coded RSS. For example this yahoo link http://developer.yahoo.com/traffic/rss/V1/index.html, which uses zip (UK Post) codes in the US. Another chap has done a hack on the BBC (UK) traffic RSS feed; http://www.blears.net/travel/index.php and shows the coding here http://www.blears.net/travel/code.txt.
