Email issue: Does not notify of new items

Hi,

I am having major issues trying to get the email client to check email and notify me of new items.

I have tried setting it up using the "Google Mail" profile and also through "Nokia Messaging" profile.

Neither work properly.

It is set to automatically update every 2 hours on any connection.

It never updates! I have to manually check, and whats worse, the Nokia Messaging profile only shows email up to the 18th April and nothing since!

I just dont get it!!!

Do you mean, you update it manually everytime ? or its nor working at all ?

Not sure about Nokia Messaging, but can you post your connection setting for gmail ?

Hi, yes, it will update manually.

It is the 2 hour automatic retrieval that is not working.

I am just using the default settings.

imap.gmail.com, port 993, ssl
smtp.gmail.com, port 465, ssl

I've also noticed this, however when I set it to check on five minutes intervals it checked each five minutes I think.. My N900 doesn't seem to sync to my Google account regularly either(using Mail for Exchange).

5 minute syncing must eat the battery?

Maybe it is something to do with Google's IMAP IDLE settings?

Maybe 5 minutes is sufficient to keep the IDLE active but 2 hours makes it timeout and need a reset?

I just tried for a couple of hours, and yes, it will probably eat your battery life for breakfast.
