Easy Android?

Hi,
I saw a thread which didn't go very far and was in the wrong section...

Could the above be attempted and work?

I would love to run android on my N900, but am not interested in doing a full install and compiling kernels and the like... Just too hard!

But could something like easy debian work?

I have ZERO programming skills, but am willing to do all the testing and risking my device for the good of the cause!! :D

Could someone be willing to help with this project?
I don't want to try and approach 'qole' after all his hard work with Easy Deb, this idea may seem like an insult to him (I LOVE EASY DEBIAN!).

problem with this on android is android wont even boot without its custom kernel code. hence the need for new kernel, but i am workign on nitdroid for n900 that should be dual boot *hopefully*

Why not just buy an android device?

I REALLY like maemo . . . I just envy some of Androids apps / widgets . . . I would really LOVE to see android apps running on Maemo that would really be something.

Thank you for your reply...
I'm just worried about screwing with my kernel.

Can I ask what's the difference between android needing a custom/patched and nitdroid - Won't NitDroid need a modified kernel, too?

[B]Edit:[/B Why not buy? It'll be a waste.. I already have an iPhone 3G being used as an alarm only  Waste....
I won't use Android for much, I would just love to have it working.. I run android on my mac (X86 build under VMware).

Re: Easy Android... Could it be attempted?

without major recoding of most ofthe android os i dont think that would be possible mrebanza, and i have an android device, but its not as nice to use for some things as maemo (video playback on maemo is soooo much better due to codec support currently)

nitdroid is just the name that we are using for android on the nokia tablets, its no diff to normal android and both need modded kernels,

Their is a package called "Instant Coffee" that is an attempt to bring the ability to run Java Based mobile apps on Maemo . . . since Android Apps are written in Java . . . I can't help but hpoe this could lead to running droid apps on the N900

Re: Easy Android... Could it be attempted?

difference is most of android apps etc are not standard java, they are built for android custom dalvik VMand bionic libc not the standard linux ones so at least dalvik would need rebuilding

Im sorry dj_steve I wasn't telling you to buy an android device - I was referring to the Original Poster . . .

I think we may have misunderstood each other . . . I can't really think of anything I would rather do on android vs maemo . . . it's just the Apps that are lacking . . . If Maemo could run all the 50,000+ Android Apps it would be the Mobile OS of the Year . . .

agreed, though currently it is more sensible to try and port the android os than it is to try and hack apps over to maemo that may or may not run, once i can get a kernel to actualyl boot on my n900 ill see what progress i can make. android is far better as a phone os than maemo though that is something i must say.
