2 Mamo Mapper questions

Question 1: I want to change the "auto center" lat and long to my house... how do I do that?

Question 2: I am using google maps(not satellite), I want to get the poi stuff for hotels and food for when I travel but non of that shows up. Am I missing something?

Coming soon. Actually, this shouldn't be too hard - I can use the same technique I use to parse Google Maps directions. The problem is making suitable use of the data. (It's easy to search for "gas stations near 25.6, -79.0", but do you really want all "about 2,403" results?)

Auto-Center is most useful in conjunction with a GPS receiver, but if you don't have one, here's what you can do... Find your house and tap-and-hold on its location on the map. A context menu will appear. Select the "Location" submenu, then select the "Set as GPS Location" menu item. A gray dot should appear.

You have just informed Maemo Mapper that you want to treat that location as your current GPS location. You can now use that location to download routes from that location, and Auto-Center will now center on that point.

That option is apparently not there without a gps. No, big, I will just continue to work around it as I do now.

The "Set as GPS Location" menu item is there regardless of whether or not you have a GPS receiver. What version of Maemo Mapper are you using?

Re: 2 Mamo Mapper questions

I want to upgrade my Maemo Mapper from v1.35 to the latest version to take advantage of the ever-increasing excellence of this app (THANKS!! Gnuite)
I am running Scirocco (39.14) and I understand that I'd have to upgade to Gregale

My questions are,

1) How difficult is it to upgrade the operating system?
2) Will I have to re-install all my existing apps?
2b) Is that hard to do?
3) Is Gregale known to be buggy? I've read where some folks had a hard time installing apps after upgrading to Gregale.

Thanks, and sorry for posting this message in two different threads.

It's easy - just download Nokia's firmware update software and follow the directions.

Yes.

The hardest part is probably just keeping track of which software packages you have installed and then tracking them down after you flash the firmware. It should be sufficient to write down the list of installed applications listed in the Application Manager. You might also want to write down which repositories you have added, too.

I haven't had any trouble personally, but it's possible. Theoretically, gregale is backward-compatible with scirocco - it's the other way around where you run into problems.

Re: 2 Mamo Mapper questions

oh and I had an idea maybe for the poi.. first off, I am not a programer, I am a sys admin so I am not saying this is easy.. but what if for your poi parsing you only do zoom level 3 and lower.. its not even an option to do a higher zoom level.. that should limit your lat/lon cords to only a few square miles tops right?
