maemo.org - Talk - Configuration/layout screen

Hi all, in the last 24 hours i've started to experience some strange behaviour on my N900, the screen has become mostly unresponsive and the screen layout/configuration keeps popping up.
After booting up I touch nothing and the config/layout dialogue appears, I click on the done button in the top right hand corner, it disappears and i can switch between screen however it then pops up again. I figured that maybe i'd downloaded one too many unstable apps so i reflashed my device with the latest available firmware and on reboot i accept the localisation settings and the device started to experience the same behaviour.
any thoughts?
I've tried numerous reboots and even popping the battery a few times
