[application request] Contact manager/search function
 

currently, we are not able to consistantly search in our contacts very well.


if i am in a sms and enter "mw" in the to field, it will not find anything, then i tap on "To" and then type "mw" the contact shows.

same goes with the email too.


also, for some reason, if you have multiple names in the first/last catagories for people with similar names to make a search quicker...

ie-

first: Mark
last: Westin mw

first: Mark
last: Wesley

the search does not work where you can even seperate by the company name.


maybe this is all better in the pr1.2 that was supposed to be released over 1 month ago, but would be great if there could be some application that would either integrate with the current searchability that is integrated, or somewhat that could help with this.

so where is the inconsistency?

Tried this in an internal PR1.2 build here and it finds "mw" for your example.

I don't like passive constructions as they generalize subjective expectations... Let's say that *you* (and a few other people) supposed it to be released over 1 month ago instead? ;-)

I think it's unlikely as Contacts app is closed source, if I remember correctly. :-/

you split the contacts search in your response. you have to enter the mw directly into the field, not tap on "to" and then type it.

when you enter the mw into address field, if there were multiple options it would show those options...but it just says invalid contact.




as for the pr1.2 comment....i was not going off of any quassi guess from this or any forum, but my own direct face to face contact with the collaboration manager for Maemo SW at the ctia. where he expected it to be within the next week or so...and that was march 24th.
