Free Public WiFi Always shown

Free Public WiFi is always shown (at full strength) when I tap in the Status Area and check out available connections.
Any other connection is only shown when it is actually available and the signal strength is factual.

Is this normal and should you just delete it? I don't understand what purpose it serves.

I await enlightenment!:D

i had something like that. I turned them off in Settings and they went away. this happened twice and they were both the ad-hoc connection icon. I had attempted to connect to them once and they always appeared as a choice thereafter.

Free Public WiFi is an annoying trick that has been played on you.

To solve the problem, go to Settings > Internet Connections > Connections and Delete the Free Public WiFi connection.

To avoid this problem in the future, avoid connecting to bogus ad-hoc networks.

For good measure, avoid connecting to wireless networks that are not provided by a source that you trust.

I tried connecting as well as it looked like a strong connection and besides it was.......FREE!

Any Idea what the dot above the strength symbol means?

Ad-hoc network. (RTFM and all that. ;))

Even ignoring the wisdom of entering a random van ad-hoc network promising free candy! free interwebs!, I thought everyone knew about the viral ad-hoc ESSID syndrome: When (certain versions of) Windows lose connection to a managed network, they continually try to join an ad-hoc network of the same ESSID. Other Windows machines see them and display the ESSID, people randomly click on it, and now their machine is broadcasting it, too. "Free Public WiFi" is by far the most common of these.

I've avoided wireless for a long time for all the reasons mentioned and more. As a result I've been ignoring lots of the wireless goings on. Since aquiring this device I've decided to give wireless a go, it really kind of begs for it!

I have owned it for only a couple of weeks and I am learning lots.

I wonder if it would fix itself or just +1 if someone thanks him...
