Security. Has anyone tried ecryptfs on the N900?
Hello all
I would like to set up my N900 so that the entire user folder is encrypted. On (K)Ubuntu it is very easy to have the entire user folder encrypted. Has anybody tried that? What I'm intending to accomplish:
The idea is that if your are robed you can switch off the device (and the thief will not be able to access your data later). If you just forget it somewhere, when the battery drains you are safe because there is no available data for another person to see. In order to do this it would be necessary to replace the kernel (say, with Titan's), make sure the correct modules are installed, perform repartitioning and figure out where/how to ask for the password during boot. Any thought? Luis |
Re: Security. Has anyone tried ecryptfs on the N900?
I'm using encfs in Easy Debian as described here. I guess it shouldn't be too difficult to have encfs ported to native Maemo as well. The required kernel module fuse is present in the standard kernel.

I' try to set it up natively. Any suggestions on how to ask for the password BEFORE starting the X session?

Re: Security. Has anyone tried ecryptfs on the N900?
Any suggestions about this?
1) How to ask for the passphrase (at boot?) before loading anything the uses /home/user or /home/user/MyDocs? The idea is to encrypt both /home/user and /home/MyDocs 2) How to make the changes permanent? |

Does anyone have any news concerning the use of encfs on the N900?
I'd love to use Ubuntu One but just in an decrypted form. MfG Blck |
