N900 usb charger/data port broken - wondering about replacement
 

So, as a few other people have voice in this forum the USB port on earlier models of the n900 are fragile and breaking and/or coming out of the port. My N900 has also exhibited this symptom but my port was pushed back into port and would no longer charge/transfer data. Seeing as it was pushed back inside the phone, I didn't notice this until my n900 battery had died completely and I went to recharge the phone.

Unable to turn on the phone or connect it to my computer, I was unable to backup the data that was on the phone, my main concern was that I had ALL of my phone numbers saved on that phone. Usually I make a backup of that sort of data but the phone was only a month old and at that point I wasn't to worried (as I should have been).

I sent nokia my phone because it was under their manufacturer warranty. The whole process was incredibly smooth. I didn't even have to pay for shipping! It turns out they aren't going to repair it, instead they are going to give me a brand new replacement phone. As exciting as that sounds to me, I realized that all my data is still on the old phone.

After my long-winded explanation my question to everyone is: If you have dealt with nokia's repair service in the past and they sent you a replacement phone did they transfer your data to your new phone?

No, get someone to charge the battery in another n900 or 5800 then do a back up to a memory card. If you check the nokia repair site you will see that they will not transfer data. In fact the first thing you will have to do it update the firmware :O

Do you know if they keep the phone that was replaced. I sent the broken one to nokia and they are shipping me a new one. So is my data forever lost?

It most likely will be, did you not back it up atleast once? I was in same situation just recently and was able to retrieve my old data thanks to a backup I did a while ago

They will keep your old phone. I got a brand new replacement as well. You should backup your files before giving them the phone.

Why would you said that there is a problem related to earlier models of the n900? Is there is a model change? How can I identify if mine is suitable to get broken? Thanks
