@ 500MHz with 256k and WinXP it wont be to speedy. I wonder how long the battery will last?

This will definately get my vote. The hard disk is the only issue I have. But I don't think they will release a 4GB flash version. So....

Performance looked ok on the video as long as users remember that its not a desktop replacement and try loading up Photoshop or hooking up their camcorders and editing videos on it.

I think it will be an excellent tool for mobile users. They have the 800 res screen for the ultimate browsing. IE/Firefox universal functionality on any website and the world of software at their fingertips.

All for suggested $700. I can't see it failing.

Heat and battery life perhaps...

We are so close to 32 GB flash and 1000 MHz processors though.
It is no wonder Nokia rushed the N800 to market in order to have a presence on the money side of the tipping point, eh?

Not to mention weight - it's half a kilo, more than double the weight of a N800 (~200g). A good weight for a laptop replacement but far too heavy to be considered "Ultra Mobile" in my opinion. The screen resolution is also no better than the 770/N800 despite being 7 inches, and the CPU may limit what can be done also.

Even during the demo video above, you can see that quite a few Windows XP dialogs will fill the entire screen (even having the OK/Cancel buttons chopped off!) - XP is not really designed for 800x480 screens. And will Vista run on this thing - XP is so last year!

IMHO, UMPCs are potentially more of a "toy" than the 770/N800. Heck, has anyone got or seen a killer application for UMPCs? Other than niche markets, what mass-market segment is likely to be the target for UMPCs? Are UMPCs just another misguided Microsoft marketing concept? When will these Korean and Japanese manufacturers realise they'll never see a return on their investment? They seem to be carrying all the financial risk for a Microsoft concept - perhaps they should develop their own ideas in future! :)

The screen is 4.3 inch not 7.
If you can where did you get the half kilogram weight information from?

I'd want to remind that other UMPCs cost close to $900, some come close to $2000. Also some of them do little more than this one, and absolutely none of them can fit in a pocket.

If I was going to buy a gadget, I would not want a Ghz processor in it or 32GB of SSD. Then it would become a very expensive gadget. And very enpensive gadgets stay at home. At least for me.

Where else can you get a full blown Windows XP hand held computer, that can fit in your pocket for $700. Tell me.

Bugger, I'm getting the Digital Cube confused with the Beijing Porient H9! :o

I don't know the weight of the Digital Cube, though I suspect it will probably be close to the 500g mark, if only due to the battery needed to keep it going long enough to make it usable.

Don't know, but does anyone have any idea what the licence cost is for XP? It's probably not that cheap relative to the cost of the hardware, and is always going to affect the bottom line by adding at least $50-$100 to the retail price. Once you subtract the cost of XP, is it a realistic expectation to find hardware capable of running XP, in a pocket sized format, for close to $600? I wouldn't have thought so, but someone may be working on it! :)
