Revert to pre-1.2 virtual keyboard ?
 

I really don't like the new onscreen keyboard of PR 1.2.
Is it possible to use the pre-1.2 vkb on 1.2 ?
And another question how to install opengles apss on 1.2 ?

do you have the same problem as me. i completed the 1.3 update via OTA. and now the virtual keyboard is corrupt. flat looking, no space bar, no shift key nor a delete key.

any ideas anyone?

I dont like it either but the thing is keyboard is closed source and only way to get it AFAIK flash back to 1.1.1 which will screw up cellular network and you cant access upcoming Ovi store

You are pro'ly using a third party theme that hasn't updated the new PR 1.2 images yet.

Try one of the two OEM themes; "Digital Nature" or "Nokia NSeries" before passing judgment. Then contact the supplier of the 3rd party theme you want to use and request an update.

Or if you have access and know what you are doing simply copy over all the keyboard images from an OEM theme into the other themes "image" directory.

I wish that option was available by default.

It strikes me that such an easy to implement ergonomical option such as to allow users to choose or even configure their preferred keyboard layout has been left out! :eek:

i agree fully with the OP.

list of problems with the new virtual keyboard:

1. much smaller on-screen keys... so small that its common to hit the spacebar, backspace or the wrong letter instead.
2. spacebar is moved to the middle and cant be accessed as fast as before (when it was nearer the right thumbs center position)
3. backspace is moved to a really awkward position and is small.
4. removed keys... the symbol pages have only 31 keys instead of 33 from the old one.
5. wasted space... the old keyboard used almost the whole screen for keys. now we have dead space to the left and right of spacebar.
6. symbol keys is harder to access... it requires 2 presses to access the 2nd symbol layout. one click to get to get to the first page of symbols - then another one to get to the next.

...all these problems were added to the virtual keyboard in PR1.2... the old virtual keyboard made it easy to type quickly, so i hope we'll get it back and bugfixed... apart from that PR1.2 is a great update.

EDIT: Theres actually only one advantage with the new keyboard - bigger text display... u can see more of what u write, but the cost for that is much smaller, and harder to use virtual keys... :EDIT

ps. a nice touch was that the hardware keyboard got a little improvement instead - accessing blue symbols by holding the symbol button down a half second :)

Anyone got any ideas? I'm waiting for a (possible) solution to this before I upgrade to PR1.2. I've gotten very used to the old virtual keyboard, and the possibility to switch back to the old style would be a big plus for me.

Wouldn't it be similar to how people were reverting the virtual keyboard from PR1.1.1 to PR1.1 as in this thread: http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=40619 ?

Can anyone see if this works? (PM me if you need the files from PR1.1.1 before I upgrade to PR1.2)

having the same problem here...the new keyboard is hell...plzz tell me is it possible to get the old keyboard back without messing much with the new update....

This is ridiculous.

First the space bar was on the right side. People complained that it should be in the center. Now it is in the center, and people are complaining that it should be in the right side.

Why don't you use the physical qwerty keyboard?
