Convert Jabber IM to new Facebook account
 

As soon as facebook added XMPP support i added my facebook chat account as a Jabber account on my N900. Now that PR 1.2 supports facebook chat I am wondering if it is possible to convert that Jabber IM account to a Facebook chat account, so that it displays the Facebook icon instead of the generic Jabber icon?

You just delete the Jabber account and set up the Facebook one

That was indeed one solution i was thinking about, but i think i will have to merge all my contacts again in that case?

Yep, just done it myself and you will have to merge them all again I'm afraid!

Have added the new facebook acount, deleted the old jabber, and then manually merged the contacts ... was some work, but was ok with around 40 Facebook-Contacts.

Feck, i have duplicates all over the place. I have about 200 people on facebook which are nearly identical to my existing list of contacts. Anyone any idea of a faster why than merging one by one on the phone.

Just thinking and guessing a bit about this:
I would think that the facebook account type, is just a regular jabber account type, with a different icon, and @chat.facebook.com pre-filled when you create the account.

So, wouldn't it be possible to find the configuration file in which the IM-accounts are defined and simply modify the account-type inside that file?
Does anybody know where the IM-account configurations are stored? I can't seem to find it...

I just had same problem and after some search here's how i solved it:
- open a terminal
- cd .rtcom-accounts
vi accounts.cfg
find the line profile=jabber in the facebook account section
change it to profile=facebook-chat
save and exit
reboot

For me it worked, so far so good.

Edit:nope, after the reboot all the contacts have to be merged anyway
Edit2: i tried facebook migrator but it definitively broke the connection between contacts. In the end I resigned, deleted the old jabber account and created a new facebook account. 252 contacts to merge in next few days, though...
