Object names gone funny!
3 Attachment(s)
Can anyone shed any light on what's happening here? Everything is like this, buttons, menus, everything!
I was clearing to space in rootfs and this has happened. Oops! Bit of a newb to linux tbh, so advice would be appreciated. |
Re: Object names gone funny!
Looks like that you deleted the locales files.

Re: Object names gone funny!
Am I right in thinking it's a case of reflashing then?

Re: Object names gone funny!
Give me your language.
I can provide your language's locales from my N900 if you are on PR 1.2 Edit: oops you are not running on PR1.2, just make a back up, flash PR 1.2 then restore and you will be fine. |
Re: Object names gone funny!
Reflashing would be an easy way to fix it.
BTW your object names aren't that funny. If they had names like "dickbutt" and "poopface," now that would be funny :D |
Re: Object names gone funny!
when i was trying to remove the names from the apps in the menu view i noticed this happening, i couldnt rename them with just a blank space cos this would happen, had to rename them with just a .
(a fullstop) what is the locales files? cos id love to remove all the text from the main menu, and just have icons instead id also like to change the text (no messages) from messaging but could never figure that one out either! if anyone has any ideas? |
Re: Object names gone funny!
That happened to me when I booted the updated firmware without the extra language pack installed.

I have no idea why you'd want this, but here goes: sudo gainroot cd /usr/share/locale/en_GB/LC_MESSAGES (I assume you're using real English) wget www.freemoe.org/users/qwerty12/misc_****.mo Now, edit a desktop file (I chose /usr/share/applications/hildon/osso_sketch.desktop), make Name "Name=XXX" and make X-Text-Domain "X-Text-Domain=misc_****" (add the line if it's not there) You can edit locale files by copying the relevant mo file from the locale folder and running on a Linux computer "msgunfmt file.mo -o file.po" and then editing it in a text editor or using a program like PoEdit When finished, run "msgfmt file.po -o file.mo" Gah, misc_*** == misc_$hit with the $ being an 's' |
