why cant i see my IM contacts since the update? is there a setting to get the bak?

There is an issue with the pidgin plugin. I suggest searching for an update in devel. If there's none, you should contact the developer or file a bug report for it

IM contacts don't show up when your IM account is disabled (or when it's not set up)

Otherwise, just try to log in to the IM and see if they appear.
If not, delete the account from the N900 and try to set it up again.
