Reverting back to Pre1.2 menus
 

Hello,

I thought I remember someone mentioning that the new way the menu is done in pr1.2 was easy to undo. I have not been able to locate the thread or post despite my google-fu usually being very strong.

I liked the menus pre 1.2. When I say menu I'm talking about what would show up after pressing the upper left hand corner of your screen. You would get all your system buttons, and hten if you pushed more got all of your secondary apps. I changed mine to have a few programs I run frequently here.

I prefer this because in the current menus you have to scroll all the way down to get to your main menu items. This take a lot of time especially if you access them frequently.

I know some would argue to just add a desktop shortcut, but I like to keep my desktops clean and free of clutter.

Hold the icon you need frequently and move it to the top.

You sir, are a genius. I didn't know you could do that. Problem solved!

Edit: Spoke too soon. I move it to the top but when I click done, They all still go to the bottom. Its almost like apps and the orginal home menu are broken into 2 zones. The icons I moved to the top where still at the top of their zone, but not at the top of the page.

Interesting, I don't have any kind of problem about it. I just tried to move Web to bottom and Brain Party to top and it worked. You might try restarting your phone.

You're probably not gonna like this answer, but yeah it's possible: by manually editing some files /etc/xdg/menus. There should be a "hildon.menu" file in there.

Preferably, you just drop in your old "hildon.menu" and other menu files in there, overwrite the existing files, and you should get your old menu (with massively increased kinescrolling resistence - anybody know how to fix that?), but if you don't have a backup, I'll have to scrounge up my backup archives and post back later.

i have a backup but how would you extract just that file?

Edit: let me add that I think I'm having this issue because I did manipulate my home and more menus pre 1.2 patch. I'm pretty sure if they would have been left default they would function as indicated above.

The older menu was much faster too.
